WinBeta is one of the original Microsoft-centered communities founded in 1998. WinBeta has broken numerous stories in the Microsoft community. For example, WinBeta was the first to reveal Windows Vista's release date (codename Longhorn).

Hey wait a minute! I thought you guys were a Microsoft-oriented website? Yes we kinda are, but we also provide relevant news on Microsoft's direct competitors such as Apple and Google. On top of all that, we also provide you with the latest and greatest in Beta software news for the Windows operating system, for your reading and testing pleasure. And no, we are not affiliated with Microsoft.

WinBeta is centered on Beta news but is also Technology focused. We also keep our members updated with any late-breaking security topics and interesting technology-related news. In fact, we even go the extra mile to provide you with some querky technology news via our Off Topic label, as well as popular guides for various topics.

A Little History

WinBeta began as a cute little IRC channel on a big network named DALnet, back in 1998/1999. Our focus was operating systems, betas obviously. We were quite intolerant of any talk of anything else. No warez. What builds we did serve were shared with the few other beta channels of the day. Eventually, as we grew, so did the network and the website that came with it.
