Sometimes the smallest things can cause the biggest fuss. A two foot putt that refuses to go in the hole, when you usually sink 9,999 out of 10,000; switching lanes on the motorway after watching 100 cars pass you, just to hit a 10 minute delay; that extra squirt of hot sauce late one night (well, early the following morning) that runs through you faster than politicians burn through taxpayer's money...
It was this way with the new Royale theme from Windows XP MCE (Media Centre Edition) 2005. Easing it out of MCE2005 was a task requiring as little effort as deciding on driving the new Aston Martin instead of taking the ever so gutless Kia Rio. The Rio's performance figures don’t look too bad if you’re used to walking. 0 to 62mph takes 14.2 seconds, and in the absence of a headwind, it will crack 100mph. But not on a hill.
A quick test reveals it works without need to use a modified dll at all in both Win XP and Win 2003 Server. Simply install the theme and choose it from control panel/display.
We have prodded it out into the open with the help of some web photographers (all of whom chose to walk incidentally rather than take us up on our offer of a cheap Kia Rio) so without further delay...
