A new build of Windows XP SP2 is expected to be released via Windows Update v5 site very soon.
This new build will sport numerous fixes to the issues and bugs reported to Microsoft since the release of SP2 RC2 build 2149. Once the download is available via Windows Update v5, it may only be installed on systems that have Windows XP RTM with/without SP1, SP2 build 2082, SP2 RC1 build 2096, or SP2 RC2 build 2149 installed. If you have an older build of SP2 installed, you will not be able to install this new build. This new build of SP2 will bring us one step closer to RTM.
UPDATE: We have now confirmed that the build number will be 2162. Although specific details are slightly sketchy, we do believe this build will be distributed via Windows Update v5. By releasing this new build, Microsoft can get some final testing done on the distribution of the service pack via Windows Update v5. Some sites are claiming that the next build will be RTM, which is not true. Expect to see this new XP SP2 build to be available via Windows Update v5 as early as this Monday. RTW (Release to Web) is expected within the next 4 to 6 weeks.
Stay tuned, as we will keep you informed of any late breaking SP2 news.

Well Michael we'll find out tomorrow night i guess. Mike Brannigan said on the SP2 newsgroups on friday that rumors of a new build were not true and the next release would be the RTM. I'm inclined to believe him since he works for MS.

Mike I'm not doubting what the article says since there is a post in the WU V5 newsgroups that says something about a new build. Plus Brannigan does have a reputation of misleading people. If theres a new build it'll be nice, which there probably will be
