The Justice Department has opened a formal investigation of the advertising deal struck last month between Google and Yahoo, The Washington Post reported on its Web site Tuesday evening, citing sources close to the inquiry.
The unidentified sources told the newspaper that investigators plan to collect documents from the search giants, as well as other large Internet and media companies.
Yahoo had said previously that is giving the U.S. Department of Justice three-and-half months to review its Google partnership, before it implements the search advertising partnership.
