How to Refresh or Reset your Windows 8 installationBy Ron on Saturday, Mar 17th, 2012 at 01:56PM (Updated: March 17, 2012 at 01:56PM)
In Windows 8, there are two new features that allow you to re-install Windows 8 but keep your personal files, settings, and any apps that are installed (Refresh) or re-install Windows 8 but deletes your files, settings, and apps, except for the apps that came with your PC (Reset).
In the event of a problem, it is recommended that you try System Restore first. If that does not work, then try Refresh. In the worst case scenario, you can do a Reset.
From the Charms Bar (WIN + C), select "Settings". Then select "More PC Settings". Once you are in the PC Settings screen, select "General".
On the right side, scroll down towards the bottom and select "Get started" under "Refresh your PC without affecting your files." Follow the instructions.
To Reset your installation, click on "Get started" under "Reset your PC and Start Over." Follow the instructions.
You may be asked to provide a DVD or USB if some system files are found missing. Now after doing a Refresh or Reset, your problem should go away!
