Nearly one week until Windows 8.1 rolls out for Windows 8 users, are you ready for it?By Ron on Sunday, Oct 6th, 2013 at 10:01AM
We are nearly a week away until the release of Windows 8.1 to those who are on Windows 8. The highly anticipated free update to Windows 8 is set for release on October 17th for Windows 8 users and October 18th (general availability).
Microsoft has already begun taking pre-orders of the Windows 8.1 DVD, so consumers can install Windows 8 and the Windows 8.1 update directly from boot. Windows 8.1 runs for $119 and Windows 8.1 Pro runs for $199. Microsoft is offering this alternative for consumers based on technical scenarios and in response to feedback.
For those of you who are on the Windows 8.1 Preview, upgrading to the final release of Windows 8.1 is possible, but you will need to re-install all your apps. Unfortunately, you will only be able to transfer your data from the Preview to the final version of Windows 8.1 and all desktop and Windows Store apps will have to be re-installed.
However, for those of you who stuck with Windows RT or Windows 8 and avoided the Windows 8.1 Preview, you will be able to upgrade to the Windows 8.1 update without the loss of anything.
Rumors and leaked information about Windows 8.1, or Windows Blue, began surfacing back in February of this year. Time sure does go by fast. Before you know it, we will be covering news about the next version of Windows, possibly Windows 8.2 or Windows 9.
As we approach Windows 8.1's release date, we will keep you posted on any details or tips/tricks along the way. Are you ready for the update?
