It's now time to take a look at the top, best, and most popular Windows 8 and Windows RT apps available in the Windows Store. We will go over some stats for the Windows Store, including the top five paid apps and top five free apps. This is yet another post in our weekly feature called "Windows Store Sunday" where we highlight what's going on with the Windows Store.
As of October 6th, there are 119,692 in the Windows Store, an increase of 1,063 apps in just one week. Compared to last week, three of the top five apps remained on the list including Skype, Netflix, and Google Search. The list saw two new additions, which included Reaper and Where's My Water 2. In the top-five paid list, the Where's My Water app is the new addition to the top five list. Asphalt 7 Heat, Rayman Jungle Run, Angry Birds Star Wars, and Fruit Ninja are all on the top five paid list but have been on the list in the past.
As Windows 8.1 approaches general availability on October 18th, Microsoft is slowly showcasing each of the new apps that are bundled with Windows 8.1. This week, Microsoft showcased the new Mail app that offers seamless integration with Outlook.com. Microsoft showed off new features were added to the app based on user feedback from the app on Windows 8. Microsoft wanted the Mail app to take advantage of the Outlook.com email service and the company did just that for Windows 8.1.
Microsoft rolled out an update for the Taptiles app on Windows 8 and Windows RT this week. The update was minor and features bug fixes and performance enhancements. Minor updates for the Netflix app, Microsoft Solitaire Collection app, Nokia Music app, ESPN app, Microsoft Mahjong app, and Bing Translator app were also rolled out this week.
