Halo 5: Guardians has blasts from the past and from parking lots as part of their sound track. In an interview with Game Informer, two of the men behind the audio for Halo 5: Guardians, audio director Sotaro Tojima and composer Kazuma Jinnouchi, went to great lengths to include both realism as well as throwbacks to the original Halo.

When Master Chief is first introduced in the game, his classic theme plays to give players the nostalgia they’ve come to expect from playing one of the Xbox line’s longest running series. Not everything is from the past though. The new protoganist/antagonist depending on who you ask, Spartan Locke, has a theme including a synthesizer mixed with an orchestra.

To get high quality audio, different sounds were recorded at various locations. The monk choir was recorded in Rudolfinum’s Dvorak Hall in Prague. The orchestra was record in Abbey Road Studios in London. And natural sounds were recorded at various locations such as Icelandic hot springs.

The extent they went to get high quality action audio is even more impressive. They had guns shot at themselves, fired high power firearms in secured parking lots, and dropped debris from cranes. Below is a picture of them recording audio in a parking lot. To see a video showing off all of their efforts head over to Game Informer.

Halo 5: Guardians appears to be another great addition to the Halo line, and the amount of detail that 343 Industries is putting into the game is a wonderful sign for its release.
