6tag, for those that did not know, is a popular 3rd party Instagram app for Windows 10, recently in development to become a Universal Windows 10 app that shares the same code on desktop and mobile devices. Rudy Huyn, the man behind this app, has rolled out another update to 6tag, making one minor yet important change to the backend.

6tag now uses Windows Runtime (WinRT) for the live tile, rather than Silverlight. Silverlight was the old way of developing apps, and now it’s nice to see 6tag utilizing WinRT. Microsoft introduced the concept of Universal Windows apps back in Windows Phone 8.1 and along with it came a common Windows platform with one API layer called WinRT. Microsoft has urged developers to migrate their Silverlight apps to WinRT apps, and you can read more about how to do this here.

Editor’s note: post has been updated to reflect that 6tag is not yet a Universal Windows 10 app.
