Not too long ago, a rumor hinted that Acer was working on a 12-inch 2-in-1 laptop as a part of their Switch series. And, it turns out, the rumor was spot on. Acer has announced the Switch 12 2-in-1 laptop which will join the existing Switch 10 and 11 tablets in the coming weeks. The device features a unique kickstand, and a detachable keyboard for improved productivity.
The notebook is powered by the latest Intel Core M processor, and boasts a 12.5-inch IPS and Zero Air Gap direct bonding technology, with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. The device comes with a unique kickstand which offers users with multiple working modes, including notebook, pad, display, tent and desktop. This means users can use it as a tablet, laptop, with or without a keyboard, or a desktop PC.
“Equipped with a unique kickstand design that features a magnetic and latch-less detachable keyboard, the centerpiece of the Aspire Switch 12 is its ability to easily transition between 5 distinct modes (notebook, pad, display, tent and desktop). Through these 5 modes, users can find a configuration for just about any need and use it as a laptop, tablet with or without keyboard, or desktop PC. It can also be optimized for sharing information and viewing multimedia (display and tent modes) in conjunction with its dual front-facing speakers for a rich and full audio experience on the go.” Acer said in the press release. “The Aspire Switch 12’s detachable keyboard can work connected or wirelessly and provides full-sized typing comfort along with a pointing stick, for an enhanced navigation experience.”
Thanks to the latest Intel Core M processor, the device can offer improved power consumption. The company touts it can provide up to eight hours of video playback on a full charge. It also comes with micro USB 3.0 and micro HDMI ports.
Acer Switch 12 comes with two storage options, 30GB or 128GB SSD, and will hit retail in the fourth quarter in EMEA and Asia with prices starting at €649. The exact availability and pricing details for specific markets are not yet available, but they will be once the tablet hits retail.
