AdDuplex: Lumia 520 continues to be the top Windows Phone smartphone, Lumia 535 gaining in

The popular cross-platform promotion network AdDuplex has released the latest figures for the month of May. The report highlights the performance of various Windows Phone handsets globally, as well as in several markets. Unlike last month, the latest report doesn’t bring any surprises other than the performance figures for different handsets.

In case you can’t recall, last month, a mysterious Windows 10 device was spotted by the folks at AdDuplex rocking a 5.7-inch 1080p display. This could be a test unit of the device, but it’s not coming out for another few months as Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 10 Mobile sometime in the second half of the year.

Coming over to the latest AdDuplex report, Lumia 520 is still the most popular Windows Phone handset but it has seen a dip in its market share. It has dropped from 21.6 percent in May from 23.1 percent when compared to last month. There are some devices which have seen an increase such as the Lumia 535, which no resides at 6.7 percent and claims the third spot, while the Lumia 630 continues to be the second most popular Windows Phone handset for the month of May worldwide.

As far as the US market is concerned, budget-friendly Windows Phone handsets continues to be lead such as the LTE-enabled Lumia 635 which has a market share of 29.8 percent, rising from 26.8 percent last month, followed by the Lumia 521 and Lumia 630.

There are no surprises when it comes to manufacturers, despite adding a number of new hardware partners and new devices from them, Microsoft continues to be the leading Windows Phone handset maker with a market share of over 96 percent. As for the operating system versions, Windows Phone 8.1 reaches close to 75 percent, but the interesting bit is the devices running Windows 10 preview — it’s running on 2.3 percent of devices, rising from 0.7 percent last month.

Microsoft is expected to release Windows 10 later this summer, but it will be the desktop version which will be released at first followed by Windows 10 Mobile. The company is also expected to release a high-end Windows 10 flagship, but details are scarce at the moment about the handset.
