Auto-expanding archives coming to Office 365 email

More and more companies are beginning to make the switch from on-premises data storage, especially for systems like email, and with that comes terabytes of data uploads to services like Office 365.  Up until now, customers using Microsoft’s new Import Service may have hit a threshold that required them to contact Microsoft support to provision additional space.

That’s changed now, and customers with unlimited archive storage offered in the E3 and E4 plans,  transferring their data to Office 365 won’t hit those limits again, according to a post on the Office Blogs:

To accommodate customers who require very, very large archiving storage, we are pleased to announce new auto-expanding, highly scalable archiving. This allows you to take advantage of a truly bottomless archive without needing to call support or perform any manual steps. Through an update to our back-end architecture, we not only enabled auto-expanding archives, but also removed limits on the Recoverable Items store.

The updates will begin rolling out worldwide in the coming weeks.
