Azure achieves strict compliance regulations to serve governments and companies with sensitive data

Companies moving to the cloud frequently come under scrutiny for security, privacy, and compliance. Microsoft has been making Azure the most compliant cloud across a wide range of industries like health care, government, and criminal justice, building their cloud to deliver the same security and privacy enterprise customers could expect from their on-premise servers.

Azure is completely devoid of advertising, meaning customer data is never used to sell ads or any other marketing purposes. Microsoft understands their government customers have strict data policies and Azure has been build to be upgraded to remain in compliance with changing laws. Azure also has the advantage of  using trusted technologies developed by Microsoft which many organizations used to host and maintain their own local servers.

Here is a list of some of the major compliance requirements Azure has met:

  • International Organization for Standardization (ISO) ISO 27001
  • Service Organization Controls (SOC) 1 and 2
  • FedRAMP
  • U.S. Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS)
  • Australian Government Information Security Registered Assessors Program (IRAP)
  • Singapore Multi-Tier Cloud Security (MTCS)
  • Food and Drug Administration 21 CFR Part 11

At a recent Azure advisory council meeting held in Redmond, partners reported that they’re reducing compliance costs with Azure, good news for the company as it expands its cloud offerings.
