The battle of the specs: Surface Pro 2 vs the brand new Surface Pro 3Written by Ron on May 24, 2014 - 06:50PM @ronwinbeta
Microsoft unveiled the Surface Pro 2 back in September of 2013, and several months later on May 20th, 2014, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Pro 3. For those of you who are on the verge of purchasing a brand new Surface Pro device and are confused on which one to get, we've got a handy dandy spec comparison table for you to check out.
Microsoft's Surface Pro 2 was originally touted by Microsoft as a "true laptop replacement" that allows you to run all your Windows software as well as apps from the Windows Store. The Surface Pro 2 is available in various configurations, sporting an Intel Core i5 processor, and starts at $899 for the 64GB model.
The Surface Pro 3, on the other hand, features a larger display (12-inch), along with the option of snagging an Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 CPU - which will definitely determine how much you dish out for the device. "Wrapped in magnesium and loaded with a 12-inch ClearType Full HD display, 4th-generation Intel Core processor and up to 8 GB of RAM in a sleek frame - just 0.36 inches thin and 1.76 pounds - with up to nine hours of Web-browsing battery life, Surface Pro 3 has all the power, performance and mobility of a laptop in an incredibly lightweight, versatile form," Microsoft states. The Surface Pro 3 starts at $799 for the 64GB model, which features an Intel Core i3 processor.
Both tablets feature an Intel HD4200 graphics chip, along with the same RAM and storage options. The Surface Pro 3 supports a MicroSD card of up to 128GB in capacity, for those who need the extra storage.
So as you will see in the table below, the specs are relatively the same, except the Surface Pro 3 features a better display and a fantastic multi-position kickstand. Take a look at the table showcasing the spec comparison between the two tablets. If you already own a Surface Pro 2, are these specs enough to convince you to purchase a Surface Pro 3?
