BBM beta for Windows Phone to kick off tomorrow, likely for select beta testersWritten by Hammad Saleem on July 16, 2014 - 03:40PM @hammadsalim
Not too long ago, the folks at Blackberry started a beta registration program for those who want to test the upcoming BBM for Windows Phone. Surprisingly, the registrations closed in less then 24 hours -- perhaps because they reached the number of users they needed to begin testing the app. According to a new tweet from Blackberry's head of product and brand marketing, Jeff Gadway, BBM beta will kick off on Thursday.
The app is already available in the Windows Phone Store, but it is likely that only users listed in the beta program can download the app. There's no word about the number of participants in the list, but it should be more than enough to find out if the app works well on the platform.
Last year, the app was released for Android and iOS as well, after facing its fair share of delays. But, it received a warm welcome from users on the other platforms, racking up to several million downloads shortly after its launch. Since then, the company has released some key BBM features for both apps such as voice and video calling, and is releasing timely updates to make sure it can compete with the plethora of messaging apps in the app stores.
BBM for Windows Phone has already received an update earlier this week as per the app store listing, but there's no word if it will offer all the features found in other platforms at launch or not. We're hoping it won't take a long time for Blackberry to release the app for Windows Phone.
