Microsoft’s first and current CEOs of the company, Bill Gates and Satya Nadella, are slated to make a rare public appearance together next week, according to GeekWire. The occasion is the Emerging Cascadia Corridor Conference, to be held next Monday and Tuesday at the Fairmont hotel in downtown Vancouver, BC.

The conference aims to promote the “Cascadia corridor,” that is the area anchored by Seattle and Vancouver, some 140 miles apart, with both cities working to develop high-tech hubs. Microsoft recently opened an Excellence Centre in Vancouver, and has offices in the city, while a number of high tech companies are being drawn to Seattle by its pool of engineering talent and to Vancouver by its connection to Asian markets and to the relative ease that workers can get visas, something that’s harder in the US.

While Gates spends most of his time working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, he isn’t fully retired from Microsoft and still works on special projects with the company.

Microsoft President and Chief Legal Officer for the company, will speak at the conference, and Microsoft will hold an opening event at the new Excellence Centre.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for news coming from next week’s conference, and as usual stay tuned to WinBeta for all the latest Microsoft news.
