Brexit is driving up the cost of the HTC Vive in the UK

HTC  has announced that it will be increasing the price of its virtual reality headset, the HTC Vive, following the United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union (via WindowsCentral).

A statement from the company posted on its blog explained its reasoning and gave some information on what to expect:

HTC continuously monitors and adjusts pricing to ensure we are providing our customers with the best value possible. Due to recent currency valuation changes and the current value of the GBP we are adjusting the price of the HTC Vive in the UK to £759 + P&P. The adjustment will come into effect on Monday 1st August.

We are committed to providing the best possible VR experience with Vive and would like to thank our UK customers and partners for their continued support

The current price of the Vive is £689, however, from August 1st that will now become £759, as well as delivery charges.

HTC is following in the footsteps of other major technology companies who are also increasing their prices or considering a price increase as a result of the Brexit vote. On August 1st, HP will also be increasing prices in the UK by 10%, whereas Dell has already begun to increase prices by the same amount. Lenovo is also looking into whether it will increase prices. Nonetheless, it seems that after August 1st, consumers in the UK will be seeing heightened prices from many technology brands that they have become accustomed too.
