Windows Phone 8.1

Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 is sort of an interesting update, originally thought to not be coming to existing handsets, it was announced recently that some handsets already on the market would indeed be getting and update to it. New Lumia’s will have the update pre-installed, and for those who were trying to install the Windows 10 for phones preview yesterday were surprised when the Insider app installed Update 2 before Windows 10.

Since Update 2 is being pushed out via the Insider app, we decided to give it a go on our Lumia 930 and 635. Overall impressions are nice, it’s an update so don’t be expecting dramatic changes with how the operating system works. The settings app has been updated and is now much more clean and organized, allowing users to pin select settings to the Start Screen much like on Windows 10.

There are a few under the hoot changes too, mostly for OEMs. One consumer-change however is the Start screen now being backed up, meaning your layout can finally be restored when restoring from a backup. That’s pretty good for those who frequently wipe their phones but don’t want to lose their current layout.

Give the video a play below and let us know what you think about this new update coming to new and existing Lumia handsets.
