Connect your Samsung S Health device to Microsoft Health with the latest update

Laurent Giret

If you’re interested into quantified self and if you own an Android phone, then you may be familiar with Samsung S-Health app. As its name suggess, the app is an activity tracker that is quite similar to Microsoft Health and Google Fit, and it’s not actually exclusive to Samsung’s Galaxy range of Android phones. The app is also necessary to sync health data from Samsung’s own Gear range of wearable devices.

However, while the app has also been able to connect to some third-party health tracking services such as the Nike+ running app as well as the blood pressure monitoring app Qardio, the app had yet to integrate with other popular services such as Fitbir, Runkeeper and Microsoft Health. That’s now a thing of the past as according to a new report from Android Police, the version 4.8.0 of S Health which has been available since May 27 finally opened the app to more activity tracking services including Microsoft Health, even though Samsung didn’t mentioned it in the app’s changelog.

According to the report, Samsung did not actually add these new health tracking services next to the already integrated ones, which is why our colleagues only learned about the addition today. To find these new options, you will have to run S Health 4.8.0 or higher, then go to More > Settings > Connected services. From there, you will find a list of 6 new services that can now integrate with Samsung’s app including Fitbit, Jawbone, Microsoft Health, Misfit, Runkeeper and Strava.

This integration between S-Health and Microsoft Health will allow users to sync data between both health-tracking services. In other words, owners of Samsung Gear wearable devices will be able to sync health data to Microsoft Health through Samsung’s S-Health app. If you own an Android device, you can get both apps from the download link below. Let us know in the comments if you think it’s a good thing that fitness-tracking services are playing nice with each other.
