Dell unveils 8-inch Venue 8 Pro and 11-inch Venue 11 Pro, powered by Windows 8.1By Ron on Wednesday, Oct 2nd, 2013 at 04:51PM
Dell has unveiled two new small tablets that are sure to be a competitor to the Surface line of devices from Microsoft. Dell's new 8-inch Venue 8 Pro and 11-inch Venue 11 Pro are powered by Windows 8.1 and feature a price tag that is much cheaper than the Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2.
First, the specs. The Venue 8 Pro features an 8-inch HD IPS display with optional 4G/LTE connectivity. The tablet comes powered by Intel's "Bay Trail" quad-core processor and features an optional Dell Active Stylus. The device has a long battery life, but Microsoft didn't give us an exact figure as to how long the battery would last. There will be a black and red color option for the Venue 8 Pro.
The Venue 11 Pro is an 11-inch tablet, powered by Intel's Bay Trail quad-core chip, but also comes in 4th-gen Core i3 or i5 processor variants. The Venue 11 Pro features a full HD display, removal battery, and accessory options. These options include a Dell Active Stylus, a Dell Slim or Mobile Keyboard which offers an extended battery giving a 50% boost in battery life, or a Dell Tablet Desktop Dock with 3 USB 3.0 ports and dual display-out ports.
Now here's the kicker. The Venue 8 Pro and Venue 11 Pro will be priced at $299.99 and $499.99 (starting price) respectively. This is obviously much cheaper than the Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2, which both have a starting price of $449 and $899 (starting price) respectively.
It remains to be seen how well these devices will sell once they are released this November. It is great to see small form factors running Windows 8.1 and hopefully Dell's offering will be a great alternative for those who see the Surface 2 pricing as expensive.
