When it comes to rumors, it's easy to get wrapped up in all the excitement and hear only what you want to hear. The usually-reliable @evleaks has provided us with a number of leaks and hints over the last couple of weeks, one of them suggesting that the hotly anticipated Surface Mini could be available to buy this summer. But according to Mary Jo Foley, this might not be the case after all.
Mary Jo's own sources -- and she is a well-connected and reliable source of information herself -- suggest this is not the case at all. The Surface Mini is becoming something of an elusive device. It was widely expected to debut at the same time as the Surface Pro 3, but it failed to materialize.
It has been suggested that a lack of Gemini touch apps was to blame for a last minute decision to halt the launch of the device, although there has been no official word on the subject. With an Android version of Office expected to make an appearance before a touch-friendly Windows version, it is likely the Surface Mini will not see the light of day until the suite is ready.
The current timescale places the launch of the Surface Mini some time in 2015, but which time Office Gemini should be complete. Microsoft remains tight-lipped on the subject so, as frustrating as it is, rumor is still all we have to go on for the time being.
