File manager, flick down to close, apps to SD features rumored to be arriving soon Written by Ron on December 02, 2013 - 08:30AM
According to a trusted leaker, Microsoft is planning on rolling out a File Manager app for Windows Phone, with the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 update due around Q2 of next year. On top of that, the Skydrive app on Windows Phone 8.1 will be similar to the Skydive app on Windows 8.1.
No details were revealed about this File Manager app for Windows Phone, except that it would roll out in Q2 of 2014 as part of the Windows Phone 8.1 update. On Microsoft's feature suggestion site, the company has marked this feature as complete, indicating that it could be arriving soon. Unfortunately, we will have to wait for an operating system update to enjoy this new feature - likely to be included in the Windows Phone 8.1 update.
Another feature that is marked as complete on Microsoft's feature suggestion site is the ability to slide an app down the screen to close it, similar to the method on Windows 8.1. We can hopefully expect to see this feature in Windows Phone 8.1.
And finally, another feature suggestion Microsoft has acknowledged and marked complete is the ability to transfer apps or media to SD card. Perhaps we will see this feature in Windows Phone 8.1 as well.
Stay tuned as we keep you updated on and of these new features as details emerge.
Update: It appears that Microsoft has updated the feature suggestion pages we mentioned above. Now, Microsoft has added a message stating that these features were "mistakenly marked as completed." Now, keep in mind that this doesn't mean these features wont make an appearance in Windows Phone 8.1 - perhaps Microsoft pulled the trigger on revealing these tidbits a little too soon.
We now fall back to what the trusted leaker stated about having a File Manager app (or perhaps a better SkyDrive app) for Windows Phone 8.1 - which is rumored to arrive in Q2 of 2014.
Thanks for the tips, akash, WinPhan, and everyone else who sent this in!
