A new day, a new Flappy Bird inspired game. Fly Or Die, the newest creation from developer Loon Apps, is now available exclusively in the Windows Store.
Besides putting a nice, pastel-like skin job reminiscent of Sony’s classics LocoRoco on the old one-finger gameplay – popularized by the notorious Flappy Bird – the game actually features an interesting new mechanics: obstacles now move in tandem with their designs (e.g. buzzsaws running back and forth,) or at least jiggles in place, adding another level of hazard and intensity to the already-unforgiving gameplay. All of them are also very grumpy about something, as you can see on the video. Additional, the main character (understandably a bird) also has a name: Piou. Which I assume is pronounced “pew.” Maybe.
You have 4 worlds to take Piou through with increasing difficulty, which you unlock slowly with collecting in-game apples. In an interesting twist, you cannot purchase apples, instead having to rely solely on “your skill and your force of will” to progress.
A fresh take on the Flappy Bird formula, Fly or Die is available for free on Windows Phone 7, 8, 10, and Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 on their respective Stores.
