Following legal disputes, Microsoft rebrands SkyDrive to OneDrive Written by Manish Singh on January 27, 2014, 06:30AM
Microsoft’s cloud storage service, SkyDrive could be rebranded as OneDrive very soon. This need for alteration comes after a popular British telecom company filed a legal proceeding over a naming dispute, which you can read about in a post titled Microsoft's SkyDrive name in jeopardy after trademark case loss against UK's Sky.
The Redmond giant was provided with a few months of time for the rebranding, and now as a German blog found out, Microsoft seems to have a website for OneDrive in development.
"Get ready for an even better place to store and share your favorite things across all your favorite devices. OneDrive is everything you love about SkyDrive and more. And it's coming soon." If you head over to the blog section of the website, a post published today says,"Today we are pleased to announce that SkyDrive will soon become OneDrive."
Just to make sure, we turned to whois to check if the website indeed belongs to Microsoft, and while we can confirm this, it appears the site's information was updated only today.
"For current users of either SkyDrive or SkyDrive Pro, you’re all set. The service will continue to operate as you expect and all of your content will be available on OneDrive and OneDrive for Business respectively as the new name is rolled out across the portfolio," the blog explains.
