Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas now available in the Windows Store

Well would you take a look at this! The popular GTA: San Andreas is now available in the Windows Store, which means you can now play your favorite San Andreas missions on either Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 RT. Much like its Windows Phone counterpart, the game features remastered graphics along with enhanced lighting and improved character models.

The app is a hefty 1.84GB, which means you’re going to have to have a bit of free space to install. GTA: San Andreas was released on iPhone, iPad and Android not too long ago. A Windows Phone version was released soon after, and so the Windows 8 version completes the Microsoft set.

It’s great to finally see large triple A games in the Windows Store. The game costs £4.99 and is available now from the download links below. The game is compatible with both 32 and 64-bit processors along with ARM meaning any Windows RT tablet can play.

At first I thought this said it was for Windows phone. Then I got to the end and realized it was for Windows.

Hmmm…. I might just have to get this. San Andreas was a ridiculous game!

It’s already out for Windows Phone I believe!

    Xbox controller support?

I’d like to know this too and it’s a major stopper for me.

Yes. but you can’t set the conrols for it. also, it needs to be an official one.

Pity its a large, triple A game with no Xbox features.

      that’s why I didn’t go for this…

  • Sargon

You were able to play it on 8.1 (and previous) for ages. I have it on steam… So the only benefit for this is that RT can play it as well now.
I’d rather they released GTA V for Desktop already.

    • ausidog

Is it optimized for touch controls, though? This is probably not catering to desktop users (though, Insuppose you can still use it). This seems awesome for the plethora of 8″ and 10″ tablets.

      • Sargon

It is, but touch controls aren’t perfect. I tried it on WP. It’s much easier to just use mouse and keyboard or a controller, in which case having the old Desktop version would be enough and in some cases better (native cheats, mods, etc).

        • ausidog

True. You get used to the touch controls after a while. I played most of vice city on iOS. Fighting was practically impossible, but the rest of it became pretty natural. The biggest problem is the tiny screen on an iphone. I might just buy this for my tablet and give it a go.

          • Sargon

I hope that once MS merges stores people who own it on WP will get this free and visa versa. Right now if I wanted this for a tablet I’d pretty much have to buy this game for a 4th time and it’s a bit too much.

Just tried to download it and it says “Sorry, this item has been removed and is no longer available from the Windows Store”.

    • John

      Will it come back?

    • Nate

You can get it now finally! :D

  • Aaditya Menon

If it were GTA San Andreas ultimate , I would’ve gone for it….I wouldn’t have cared for it being Xbox or not…
