Hey Cortana feature removed from Android app in US Market

Cortana

Earlier this month, we told you about some problems with the Cortana app on Android, specifically that the “Hey Cortana” feature, which allowed you to just speak to your phone to get Cortana driven results, could mess with your phone’s microphone. The issue could make using the phone to make phone calls, for instance, unusable. The problem apparently stems from some incompatibilities with Google’s own “OK Google” feature of Google now.

Now, the Cortana app for Android has been updated as of yesterday, December 20th, and has removed the “Hey, Cortana” feature in the US market:

What’s New

1. Improved app stability.
2. Enhanced call and text features.
3. Removed “Hey Cortana” feature for US market
The app appears to be quite popular on Android, showing “100,000 – 500,000” installs, and although we’re not sure that the microphone problems are the sole cause of the removal of “Hey Cortana,” it seems to make sense. Here’s hoping that Cortana reappears in all her full glory on Android soon.
