How to get rid of the Start Button in Windows 8.1, for those who really want toBy Ron on Wednesday, Oct 16th, 2013 at 05:36PM
Nope, this isn't a troll post. Believe it or not, there are some users out there who find the Start button on Windows 8.1 to be useless. Microsoft added the Start button to Windows 8.1 after users complained of its absence in Windows 8, but unfortunately, users are still having an issue with the returning Start button.
Well, if you are one of those people who find the Start button to be useless and simply taking up precious space on your taskbar, there is one tool that you can download and install that will help you. Introducing StartIsGone, a free tool that removes the Start button on Windows 8.1.
"It is freeware, portable application which does not require .NET Framework or installation. It is just icon in your tray with few options in the context menu.Tick "Run at startup" and your start button will be removed every time your Desktop shows," the software description reads.
While clicking the Start button simply takes you to the Start Screen, right-clicking the Start button offers a plethora of "start-menu" replacement shortcuts. However, some may find this to be a bit redundant since you can access the Start Screen and Power menu via keyboard shortcuts. You can even access the Start Screen via the hotcorner on the bottom-left side of the screen.
Regardless, if you are one of the few who prefer a taskbar with no Start button, grab the freeware download below and give it a shot. Let us know how the software works for you. If you have an alternative software suggestion, let us know!
