Imagine Cup Kodu Challenge

Microsoft is looking to bring out the inner developer in young kids between the ages of nine and eighteen, and is encouraging interested kids and parents to enter the software giant’s Imagine Cup Kodu Challenge.

“Kodu is a new visual programming language made specifically for creating games. It is designed to be accessible for children and enjoyable for anyone. The programming environment runs on the Xbox, allowing rapid design iteration using only a game controller for input,” Microsoft stated.

Kodu is a free download for the PC and a $5 download for the Xbox (via Xbox Marketplace) and Kodu lets gamers “sculpt landscapes; decorate them with trees, buildings, lakes and other objects; and populate them with interactive characters, gameplay, scoring systems and more.”

Microsoft has been running the Imagine Cup technology contest for years and has now added a new category for younger kids. Using Kodu, kids can create games or interactive stories. If you are a parent and wish to enter your child, or know of a child interested, head over to the source link below to read more details about the challenge and to enter the child!
