Internet Explorer gains a new anime mascot: Inori Aizawa

It may still be the most commonly used web browser in the world, but Internet Explorer is much maligned. Microsoft wants to try to improve the image of the browser, and the latest move to do so involves the creation of an anime mascot called Inori Aizawa.

In fact, more than just a new mascot has been unveiled, there is a mini anime film in which our heroine takes on the dark side of the web. Dressed in a miniskirt adorned with the Windows logo and hair tied in place with clips featuring the Internet Explorer logo, Inori conquers over dark forces.

The two minute video is heavy with — not particularly subtle — symbolism, and it’s pretty impressive stuff.

Inori Aizawa even has her own Facebook page. The account has not been active for very long, but it is already racking up a reasonable number of followers.

Here she is described as the “personification of Internet Explorer”:

“When I was younger, I used to be a clumsy, slow and awkward girl. However, just like the story of ugly duckling, people told me that I have really matured and changed over the years. I feel confident in my abilities now, and I’m eager to show you what I can do.”

Check out the video that has been posted to YouTube — there’s even a 3D option available.
