According to data from the Buzz Marketing Group, which is a youth marketing agency, kids these days prefer the Microsoft Surface RT tablet and Samsung Galaxy phone, and think that Apple is “done.” This makes complete sense because why would kids want an iPhone or an iPad when everyone else already has it?
“Teens are telling us Apple is done. Apple has done a great job of embracing Gen X and older [Millennials], but I don’t think they are connecting with Millennial kids. [They’re] all about Surface tablets/laptops and Galaxy,” says Tina Wells of the youth marketing agency Buzz Marketing Group.
Forbes brought up a good point in their report indicating that the popular parent tradition of giving their old phones to their kids while the parents upgrade to newer phones simply means that kids get stuck with an older generation iPhone. With an Android phone, not only is it cheaper but the chances are higher that kids will get a brand new phone. Microsoft’s Surface RT tablet is also priced at a reasonable point which would allow parents to purchase their kids the tablet, rather than paying more for an iPad. This just shows that Microsoft’s Surface RT is “cool” in the minds of kids.
