Microsoft acquires cloud security company Adallom for undisclosed amount

In the cloud first, mobile first world that Microsoft is trying to be the largest player in, security is a high priority. To bolster their security offerings, Microsoft has purchased Adallom, a company known for their cross platform security options. Adallom works with Salesforce, Box, Dropbox, ServiceNow, Ariba, and most notably due to the acquisition, Office 365.
A Microsoft Blog post announced the purchase and explains how Adallom lines up with the vision of Microsoft. It states “Adallom expands on Microsoft’s existing identity assets, and delivers a cloud access security broker, to give customers visibility and control over application access as well as their critical company data stored across cloud services.” The key words here are security and “across cloud services.” One of the main concerns of using cloud services is security so the purchase of Adallom makes sense. Adallom also has a post expressing their thanks and excitement over the news.
It was reported back in July that Adallom was purchased by Microsoft for $320 million. There was no amount reported today, though the official blog post does provide concrete evidence of the purchase. This recent acquisition is the latest in a long line of purchases made by Microsoft of relatively small tech companies.
