Microsoft has acquired the video search engine, VideoSurf, for around $100 million dollars, a new report indicated today. VideoSurf provides technology that allows users to conduct visual searches of large volumes of video content.

“Over time, as we integrate VideoSurf’s technology into our system, we are excited about the potential to have the content tagged in real-time to integrate the speed and relevance of the search results,” Microsoft Xbox Live unit Director Alex Garden stated.

Microsoft plans on integrating VideoSurf’s technology into the Xbox Live service, to allow subscribers the ability to search though video content stored on the entertainment system.

“Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Division is the leading edge of connected entertainment. We are incredibly excited to be working together on our mutual passion for creating amazing consumer experiences and reinventing how consumers search, discover, and enjoy content on their televisions,” VideoSurf’s CEO said in an official statement.

This new technology would compliment Microsoft’s voice search technology found in the Xbox Live service and its integration with Microsoft Kinect. Microsoft might also consider adding this new technology to its other products and services, such as its Bing search engine.
