Microsoft apparently testing a robust Outlook email client for Windows RT

As we all know, the Mail app that comes with Windows 8 and Windows RT is not all that robust. In fact, it pretty much sucks. Now, a new report claims that Microsoft is internally testing a robust Outlook email client for Windows RT; “Outlook RT” so to speak.

“But I’ve now heard from three of my contacts that Microsoft has completed and is testing internally a version of Outlook that runs on Windows RT-based devices. This “Outlook RT” would run on Microsoft’s ARM-based Surface RT devices, as well as any/all other ARM-based Windows RT tablets and PCs. Here’s the catch, though: According to two of these three sources, when/whether Microsoft will make Outlook RT commercially available is not yet decided. This might not ever happen, these sources stressed,” Mary Jo Foley over at ZDNet stated.

If this turns out to be true, many Surface RT users will be happy to see a robust email application, whether it is free or paid. Windows RT already comes with Office Home & Student 2013 RT, but does not include Outlook 2013. The report also indicated that Microsoft may even rename the Mail app in Windows 8 and Windows RT to “Outlook.” Again, take this with a grain of salt. Microsoft has yet to officially announce anything regarding an Outlook app for Windows RT.
