Microsoft confirms Windows Live Messenger service retirement on March 15th Written by Ron on January 08, 2013 - 09:12PM
Just recently, we learned that Microsoft plans to retire Windows Live Messenger in favor of Skype. Microsoft officially announced that Windows Live Messenger and Skype will become one back in November of last year and encouraged all Messenger users to update to the latest version of Skype to begin the transition.
In an email to Windows Live Messenger users, Microsoft confirms that the service will retire on March 15th (except for China, which will continue to see the service for a little while until Microsoft announces further). Microsoft continues to urge Messenger users to make the move to Skype by downloading the latest version of Skype for their instant messaging and video chat needs.
