Microsoft files patent on head-mounted gaming display called ‘Kinect Glasses’

According to a new report, Microsoft filed a patent back in January of 2012 for whats called “multiplayer gaming with head-mounted display” which can recognize the player that is wearing it and any gestures that are made by the player. This appears to also be called the “Kinect Glasses.”

The Kinect Glasses, according to the patent filing, is capable of recognizing voice gestures and controls, as well as have eye scanning technology, accelerometers, gyroscopes, microphones, and an OLED display to showcase the view and positioning of the player wearing the device. “A system and related methods for inviting a potential player to participate in a multiplayer game via a user head-mounted display device. In one example, a potential player invitation program receives user voice data and determines that the user voice data is an invitation to participate in a multiplayer game,” the patent states.

Apparently, the Kinect Glasses will also allow gamers to exchange Xbox Live gamer tags and achievement scores. No word from Microsoft on this topic but it would be nice to see the Kinect Glasses appear in time for the November launch of the new Xbox One.

Update: Microsoft has issued a statement to The Verge on the topic: “Not all patents applied for or received will be incorporated into a Microsoft product.”
