Microsoft Garage has released a preview of a new cross-platform clipboard app called Cache. The app is currently available for iOS and Windows PC, but only after signing up for the preview. The idea for the app is pretty straightforward but has the potential to be incredibly useful.
Cache is a lightweight app that helps you manage and organize anything you clip from the web or any notes you jot down. You can organize the clips by when you clipped them or by your own lists. Your clips are then all stored in the cloud and synced across all of your devices. Cache even remembers where you clipped things from so you can always go back and look for the original content.
In essence, Cache is not all that dissimilar from OneClip, which we got a peek at back in May of 2015. In fact, Cache may very well be the successor of that project and potentially part of Microsoft’s plans to further integrate Office into Windows 10 with the Redstone 2 update. Only time will tell, but Cache looks very similar to OneClip when comparing screenshots released today to the screenshots of OneClip recently spotted by Windows Central.
An intelligently designed and simplified way to manage notes and clips across devices could be an extremely useful feature. Hopefully, we’ll know more about the app soon, until then, you can sign up for the preview on Cache’s Microsoft Garage page to try it out for yourself.
