For the month of January, Microsoft has teamed up with Global Citizen with their Upgrade Your World initiative to help the goal of ending extreme poverty by 2030.

To launch this partnership, Global Citizen teamed up with Windows and Microsoft Philanthropies, to host a meeting at the Microsoft Loft Space (inside the flagship Microsoft Store) in New York, to bring to attention the efforts of the organization and place the spotlight on Global Goals. Many industry leaders and advocates attended a discussion on the importance of technology in making these goals a reality. From the use of smartphones, computers, tablets to cloud connectivity, the discussion covered the rapid integration of technology having a positive effect on the reaching the goals of Global Citizens.

Alongside Microsoft’s partnership for ending extreme poverty, they will contribute to areas of Global Citizens, Global Goals where their impact can be most useful. Those areas include:

  • “Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.” Technology will play a key role in transforming education through innovative teaching methods, adaptive curriculum and interactive learning experiences. Moreover, increasing access and standardizing computer science education for all youth will spur innovation in emerging and developed markets across the globe.
  • “Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.” Productivity services, mobile technology and cloud services will expand economic opportunity, create jobs and support business growth.

Around the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft started an initiative to tackle many issues across the globe and to call for reform, which included areas like health, poverty, hunger, and equality. This campaign is called Upgrade Your World and is known for its hashtag across Microsoft marketing and events. Upgrade Your World has partnered with non-profit organizations making real efforts to help change world issues, such as The Malala Fund, Keep a Child Alive, and Hour of Code.

By helping with this latest organization, Microsoft is continuing to move forward with its initiative to Upgrade Your World and bring to attention many areas that can be addressed through the use of partnerships, technology, and philanthropy.
