Rahesh Jha, Microsoft Corporate Vice President for the Office 356 team, has taken to the official blog to announce the availability of local Office 365 datacenters in India. Satya Nadella first announced plans to build the local datacenters in September last year.
Specifically, 3 datacenters in Mumbai, Pune and Chennai will now deliver Office 365 services to the local market, making Office 365 the first global commercial cloud service to provide services from within India. This shows Microsoft’s commitment to Indian businesses, as well as helping to “accelerate the Indian government’s digital transformation initiative,” as mentioned in the blog post.
In addition to all the advanced productivity functions and complicance capabilities provided by Office worldwide, the added benefit of security provided by local data housing, especially in regulated industries such as banking and help will certainly makes Office 365 an even more attractive choice for local businesses.
