From their involvement in the NFL, to the recent sponsorship of Hendrick Motorsports in NASCAR, or even the Seattle Sounders football team, Microsoft has heavy involvement in all forms of sports. Today, a new sport has just been added to Microsoft’s list, as the company has signed a new partnership to collaborate with Toyota in the 2017 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) series.

As part of the new partnership, Microsoft will serve as the “technology partner” for the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRC rally team. The partnership also comes after the two companies collaborated on the establishment of Toyota Connected, which collects vehicle data to help further driving, and safety for Toyota’s customers. According to a press release, Microsoft, nonetheless, will support Toyota Gazoo Racing in the following areas:

  • Development of a data analysis platform to gather, visualize and analyse various data related to driving which will be utilised in race activities.
  • Creation of a team information-sharing system to allow team members to collaborate and share various materials such as images and videos efficiently and effectively using a cloud service.
  • Enhancement of communication with fans through providing services utilizing the cloud and using Microsoft’s display devices to provide them with a front-row motorsports experience.

What are your thoughts on this partnership? Toyota President Akio Toyoda said that, “just like Toyota, Microsoft aims to enrich society in meaningful ways.” Do you agree? Let us know what you think by dropping us a comment below!
