windows 10 slow ring builds

Microsoft is cooking something that will improve the overall Windows 10 experience for the general public, as well as Insiders. The news came out during a Windows Insiders session at Build 2018.

Slow ring Insiders get to test more builds

Windows Insiders in the Slow ring usually receive builds every month. The pace at which they get the builds is a bit more moderate compared to Fast ring Insiders. Microsoft is working to change this tradition and it would release more Slow ring Redstone 5 builds for Insiders this year. This is pretty interesting news considering that last month, Dona Sarkar stated that most companies and businesses are enrolled in the Slow ring.

Looking at build data yesterday & we realized that the most installed builds within companies (in order) are: 1. Slow ring 2. Release preview 3. Fast ring

Beta quality software for the Slow ring

The Windows Insider team explained that one of its primary targets had become beta quality software being deployed to the Slow ring and alpha quality software heading over to the Fast ring. In other words, after the software gets initially tested in the Fast ring, issues and fixes would be pushed out and addressed in the next releases for the Slow ring.

There will probably also be small jumps numbers between the Fast ring and the Slow ring while moving ahead. This change may lead to higher quality builds and an improved Windows 10 experience for the general public after the testing is complete.
