Microsoft shows off the power of the Surface stylus pen in Photoshop CC

The pressures-sensitive stylus of the Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 is a great tool for digital artists, and one the Windows Blog, Microsoft shows just what can be achieved with Photoshop CC.

We have looked at the stylus before and have investigated some of the extra options that are available after installed new drivers from Wacom.

Once these drivers have been installed, it is possible to take advantage of the pressure sensitivity settings in Photoshop CC. This not only open up a whole new world of creativity, but also makes working with a tablet much more like working with traditional art materials.

In the blog post, Gavin Gear demonstrates the levels of precision that can be achieved by enabling pressure sensitive tools. His work also shows how useful a tool Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 can be for digital artists.

The idea of working with a stylus is nothing new, but they are traditionally used in conjunction with a graphic tablet. Using the Surface stylus directly on the screen is a far more immediate and intuitive means of interaction.

Try it for yourself. It’s easy to forget that there is a stylus to work with — so grab hold of it and put it to good use!
