Microsoft shuts down Nokia's flagship retail store in Finland

It’s been almost a year since Microsoft took over Nokia’s devices division. Since then, the company has been busy restructuring the assets it acquired, laying off workers, dropping the Nokia logo, and more recently, rebranding Nokia’s retail locations across the globe. Not too long ago, the company announced it has rebranded over 50 retail stores in Brazil, with more to follow in other parts of the globe as Microsoft Priority Resellers and Microsoft Mobile Sellers.

According to a new report from Yle (first spotted by the folks at WindowsCentral), Microsoft has closed down the Nokia retail store in Helsinki, Finland. The location was Nokia’s flagship retail store in the heart of the city of Helsinki. It’s been less than a year since the software giant took the charge of the retail location, and as per the report, the store closed its doors for customers on April 30th, saying that it will focus on online sales as well as other retail locations across the country.

Microsoft Finland communications manager Tomi Kuuppelomäki said that 15 people lost their jobs as a result of this closure, which is not a good sign, but we’re hearing about layoffs ever since Microsoft took charge of the company as a part of their bigger restructuring plans.
