Microsoft’s senior product manager of Windows Phone, Greg Sullivan, mentioned during a recent interview that the company would be taking a different approach when it comes to Windows Phone announcements.

“We are taking a different approach on the announcements this year. It is safe to assume we are working on low and high-end devices, but at the moment there are a lot of meetings going on with partners behind the scenes. We’re going to have an upgrade path going forward. Windows Phone 8 can evolve. We have an architecture that enables portability and is fundamentally hardware independent. As the market evolves and customer requirements demand it, we’ll evaluate options,” Sullivan stated during an interview.

This pretty much means that Microsoft will not reveal too much about whats coming next in order to continue encouraging consumers to purchase a Windows Phone now. If Microsoft reveals too much about a future plan, consumers will wait for something better. According to Sullivan, there are three times as many people walking into stores to ask for a Windows Phone device compared to last year. Four times as many people are actually purchasing a Windows Phone, compared to last year.
