Microsoft unveils the Wireless Display Adapter, connect your Windows 8.1 or Android tablet to your HDTV

Not that long ago, Microsoft unveiled the HD-10, better known as the Microsoft Screen Sharing For Lumia Phones. This little device gives Lumia owners the ability to view high quality content on a bigger display from their phone. To take things a step further, today Microsoft has unveiled the Wireless Display Adapter, which lets you share everything from your Windows 8.1 or Android device onto a big screen.

Here’s how it works. Simply plug the USB end and HDMI end of the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter into an HDTV, monitor, or projector. Then select the right input on your TV, pair it with your laptop, tablet, or smartphone and you’ll be ready to go. This awesome tool lets you wirelessly project your screen from your Miracast-enabled device.

Here’s what Microsoft has to say about it:

“Today we’re announcing the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter, which connects to an HDTV, monitor, or projector and will let you easily share content from any Miracast-enabled device – including many PCs and Tablets running Windows 8.1. With the Wireless Display Adaptor, I don’t have to worry about getting everyone to huddle around a device. All the content I care about, along with audio, is easily shared on the big screen.”

Sine the Wireless Display Adapter uses Miracast technology, you are not limited to certain apps or content streaming. The adapter will let you show anything from your device. For example, you can connect your Windows 8.1 tablet to your TV monitor to showcase a Flipboard magazine or even watch a YouTube video. You can take things a bit further and even project Office documents to your TV screen.

Here’s another example use scenario — take the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter with you when you’re traveling and hook it up to the HDTV in your hotel room to play movies or keep the kids entertained.

The Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter is available for preorder right now in the US and Canada. It will be generally available in October for $59.95 online at the Microsoft Store, Best Buy, and Microsoft Retail Store locations. It will work on Windows 8.1 and Android.
