We’ve reported in the past that Microsoft was rumored to released Windows 10 Mobile to Windows Phone 8.1 devices in waves, with the better-spec’d and most recent devices coming first and lesser spec’d and older devices coming later. That gave some hope to Windows Phone device owners whose smartphones aren’t included in yesterday’s posted list of supported devices.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case. In a series of conversations on Twitter, Microsoft reps, including King of the Big Red Button Gabe Aul, indicated that there are no upcoming waves and implied that what you see is what you get in terms of device support.

Gabe’s note about reported performance issues and a low percentage of “likely to recommend” votes is interesting, given that he is directly indicating the impact that user reporting has on these sorts of decisions. That’s a good thing generally, but I’m sure users reported issues hoping that Microsoft would fix them, not that they would be voting away support for their own devices.
Note that back in the day, Microsoft’s position was that all Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices would be getting Windows 10 Mobile, and so things have surely changed in the interim:

In any case, we’re sure that Microsoft will be feeling the heat as Windows Phone owners are left out in the cold. The company has changed their mind about such things in the past, and so there’s a sliver of hope that they might do so again in this case. But if you’re holding onto a Windows Phone that’s not in yesterday’s list, then you might want to start looking at your options if you want to move up to Windows 10 Mobile.
