Earlier this week, Microsoft officially started the worldwide rollout of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which is the third important update of the new operating system since its initial release on July 29, 2015. If you’re wondering if the company will keep iterating regularly over the coming months, we previously reported that Microsoft was now planning a Spring 2017 release of the next update to Windows 10 code named “Redstone 2.” The company has now confirmed this information in a new blog post on the Microsoft TechNet website (via Windows Central)

Windows 10, version 1607 is our third Windows 10 feature update released. Based on feedback from organizations moving to Windows 10, this will be our last feature update for 2016, with two additional feature updates expected in 2017.

While Windows phones have not been Microsoft’s focus this year, the upcoming Redstone 2 and Redstone 3 updates may hopefully bring Windows 10 Mobile back in the spotlight. Back at Build 2016 in late March, Microsoft’s head of the Windows and Devices group Terry Myerson explained that “we’re going to do some cool things with phones, but this year phones are an important part of our family but not the tip of the spear.” We can’t wait to learn more about these upcoming improvements to the Windows 10 Mobile experience, and if you’re still enrolled in the Windows Insider program you should expect the first Redstone 2 builds to ship to the Fast Ring pretty soon.
