Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore now in charge of development for Internet Explorer

Joe Belfiore, best known for his role as the man behind Windows Phone, is getting a new assignment at Microsoft. According to a new report, Belfiore will now be in charge of development for the company’s Internet Explorer browser.

This news comes after Microsoft’s Dean Hachamovitch revealed in a blog post that he was changing roles, after being the man in charge of Internet Explorer development for a long time. It appears that Belfiore will run a team that will focus on the app portion of Internet Explorer, along with the user experience aspect of Internet Explorer.

So while we all see Belfiore as the face of Windows Phone, behind the scenes he has already taken new roles and increasing focus on smartphones, tablets, and PCs. As an added responsibility, Belfiore will oversee the app side of Internet Explorer development, while the rendering engine and platform remains a focus of the core operating systems group.

No word yet on what exactly Hachamovitch’s new responsibilities will entail. Currently, plans for future Windows projects are on hold until the Xbox One is rolled out and portions of the company’s reorganization is complete. This shouldn’t take that long though.
