Mint now available as a Universal App, too

Earlier today Sean Cameron reported that Autodesk Pixlr was updated in the Windows Phone and Windows Stores as a universal app, making it a single app that works across different types of devices, from phone, to tablet, to PC. Now another app, the popular personal finance management service Mint, has also been updated as a universal app in both the Windows Phone and Windows Store.

WindowsCentral reported on a tip from their reader that the Mint app received a minor update, but notably it changed the app’s status to a universal app. This makes Autodesk Pixlr and Mint the latest to move towards the universal app model in anticipation of Windows 10’s launch. Microsoft is hoping Windows 10’s focus on a unified store for both mobile and desktop apps, which will all be universal apps, will attract developers with the promise of only writing a program once for it to work across a range of devices.

And Mint is well suited as a universal app. It is an easy to use with an intuitive interface that does most of the work for you. Mint’s service pulls your financial information to quickly give you summaries of your budgets and spending to keep you on top of your finances. With the mobile version, users can quickly review their spending and categorize expenses when on the go, and then later drill down into their budgets and spending trends from another device. Some of the features Intuit lists for Mint in the Windows Store are:

  • See all your personal finance accounts—checking, savings, and credit cards.
  • Get live updates for your accounts right on your Start screen (Windows-exclusive feature!)
  • Save time with automatically categorized transactions.
  • Understand where you’re spending with easy-to-read charts and graphs.
  • Track your budget.
  • Track your cash spending.
  • Get bill alerts and bill reminders in the form of email or text alerts that notify you of upcoming bills, fees, low balances, unusual activity and more.
  • View finances offline. The app stores information from your latest download.

If you are interested in Mint you can head over to either the Windows Phone Store or Windows Store to get the app for free. And once you pick it up from either store, the app will be available to install across all of your Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 devices.
