As part of Pac-Man’s 36th anniversary, the mobile game, Pac-Man 256, is being re-released on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and on Windows PC (via the Steam video game service).

Pac-Man 256 will be a digital-only download and is due for release on the 21st of June. A special add-on called a Coin Doubler will also be sold alongside the game however this little extra is can already be purchased at a discount until the 27th of May.

“We have really enjoyed working with BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment and Hipster Whale on Pac-Man 256 for mobile, and having the opportunity to ship it on the latest generation of consoles and PC is the icing on the cake for us! We can’t wait to see how much fun players have with it,” said 3 Sprockets’ director, Seon Rozenblum.

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe S.A.S Project Owner, Benjamin Prénom commented that, “We wanted everyone to enjoy Pac-Man 256, so it was a logical decision to make it available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The brand new local multiplayer mode, exclusive to the console and pc version, makes it even more accessible: get ready for maximum fun playing up to 4 players at the same time!”

The console versions will feature several exclusive features that were unavailable on the mobile version such as social sharing, 10 new unlocked items, and a new 4-player local co-op mode that genuinely looks like it could be a lot of fun.

There are already a host of Pac-man games on the Xbox One and just last month saw the new release of the classic Pac-man and Ms Pac-man games on the console. The 4-player mode in Pac-man 256 and its 3D graphics do differentiate the game enough from these versions though so it will be interesting to see how popular it is with consumers.
