Nokia Lumia Icon reappears on Verizon website -- $777 on and off contract

Earlier in the month Verizon gave an accidental glimpse into the future when the Nokia Lumia Icon suddenly appeared on its website. Now the hotly anticipated handset has reappeared just days after reports came in about the phone going on sale in China. There has been no announcement from Nokia or Verizon, but maybe — just maybe — there could be something just around the corner.

Also known as the Nokia Lumia 929, one of the reasons the Icon is causing so much excitement is that it is essentially a scaled down version of the Nokia Lumia 1520. The specs are impressive, there’s no denying it:

  • 5″ Full HD 1920×1080 OLED display at 441ppi
  • Curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • 2.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 32GB storage
  • 2420mAh battery
  • 20MP rear camera
  • 1.2MP front camera

Price could well be what determines just how popular the Nokia Lumia Icon is. The current Verizon listing for the handset shows a price for both a two-year contract and pay as you go… and both prices are the same. It’s not clear whether it will change, but at the moment it looks as though $777 is the price both on and off contract. In all likelihood, anyone opting to lock into a contract for a couple of years will get a discount.

Despite the reappearance of the Verizon listing, there’s still no official word on when the handset could be released.
